Stretch Marks
STRETCH MARKS (Striae)
Stretch marks (striae) occur on the abdomen, buttocks, breasts and thighs, and are the result of rapid and excessive weight gain and occur most often in pregnancy. They appear when the skin becomes overstretched and the fibers in the deep layers break. This results in reddish marks that gradually fade to white. Unfortunately, they are permanent.
Essential oils may be used to prevent the development of excessive stretch marks (striae) and to treat those already formed. Although stretch marks (striae) are permanent scars, the healing and cell-regenerating properties of the oils may promote the fading of existing scars to a certain degree. Application twice daily for a prolonged period will be necessary.
Suggested essential oils (unsuitable for pregnancy): Frankincense, lavender, lemongrass, myrrh, neroli, jasmine, rose, rose geranium, ylang ylang.
